Building the foundation for a new site can be a tedious, complex and often uninspiring step in the process of website creation. Even if you start with a template, the process of finding a template that is close to what you're after can be a little like looking for a needle in a haystack. Plus, if you pick a popular template from one of the major website builders, you're ensuring that your site will look just like thousands, if not tens of thousands, of others.
Here at PXT HQ, we believe that AI Website Builders will ultimately provide a far superior experience to starting a site from a template. It's early days in this space, but we're already seeing rapid improvements as to how tailored sites can be generated from a descriptive prompt. We're working hard in this space to make starting a new site a breeze. Plus, if you pick a flexible website builder like Pixel Together, you can completely tailor the AI-generated starting point and make it your own!
We’ve taken a step back from working on our own AI Website Builder and have done our own research on the best AI-generated website builders in 2024 to help you decide which platform will best fit your needs, speed up your workflow and support your creativity. Here's our two cents below.

The process
Most builders at the forefront of this technology involve a similar, straightforward process. Firstly, you input information about the site you want to create via a short series of questions or a prompt box. Then, AI makes your site based on this information.
What happens from here is where a lot of variation in quality and usability lies, and in our opinion, elevates this technology from gimmicky to a genuinely useful and innovative option. We’ve summarised our thoughts below.
Pixel Together - Easy design, without boundaries
After creating a profile in Pixel Together, the AI generation option requires you to detail a description of your site in the prompt box. The description can be as detailed or simple as you like and can include suggested colours (even add your brand hex codes), functionality and tone of voice. The site is generated on screen, in real-time, within the Pixel visual editor and is a lot of fun to watch your site getting created.
Pixel offers a free 14-day trial, which gives you plenty of time to try out the editor. Created to be user-friendly, intuitive and super flexible, the drag and drop based editor offers extensive options to customise, adapt and expand the generated site. In addition, we're renowned for our responsive and personalised customer support, so if there’s anything you can’t do, we're here to assist.
See an example of the Pixel Together editor at work.
Pricing: Starts at $10USD / month, with 14 days free.
Best for: Anyone looking to quickly create a site, knowing they can edit and adapt it easily and extensively.
Framer - Our favourite (after Pixel Together, of course!)
We enjoyed Framer the most of the other builders we researched. Like the others, Framer requires you to create a profile and then input your site description, after which it will generate the site for you.
The site is created on screen, and seeing the layout and copy develop is satisfying. Once the generation process is complete, you have access to Framer’s editor and full ability to test out the site.
However, the final site generated is relatively minimal, short in length and predominantly using a single colour with a few secondary colours as accents. While offering flexibility to change these colour options and further expand the site, the editor is geared towards designers. This means that users need to be familiar with design tools and CSS to comfortably and efficiently work in Framer.
Best for: Designers familiar with CSS and design tools who want to expedite workflow when creating simple sites.
Pricing: Free membership “for hobby projects” with limited usage. Basic plan starts at AUD $8/month.
10web – Points for style
10web requires you to answer 4-5 questions and briefly describe your site. In addition, you must select a simple colour scheme, template and tone of voice (formal or informal).
The generation process is hidden, although progress is tracked through an infographic. Once the site is complete, you must create a free user profile to view and edit your site.
The layout and design of the 10web sites we generated were more sophisticated and aesthetically in line with current website design trends. However, you must sign up for a Pro plan to begin editing the site. It’s also worth noting that 10web sites are all built in WordPress, so if you’re a designer or human who prefers to shy away from WordPress sites, give this one a miss!
10web is currently offering a free 7-day trial for their pro plan, allowing the option to test the editing interface and functionality before committing.
Best for: Designers who enjoy working in WordPress.
Pricing: $10USD / month, with 7 days free.
Limecube – Simple sites, limited design flexibility
After creating a free user profile, Limecube asks you to describe your business in a short brief and specify the industry area. It prompts you to select the tone of voice you wish AI to use for the copy and choose a colour palette, with the range of options more extensive than the other builders we tested. It also asks whether you will have a retail aspect of your site.
The site generation process takes a few minutes and is hidden.
Once generated, Limecube does allow you to edit the site before subscribing to a plan. We found the editor to be slower than most website-building platforms offer and with a few bugs; for example, you can only move layers within pre-selected areas and don’t have a lot of flexibility to change up the template design.
Best for: People who want a relatively simple site and don’t want a lot of design flexibility.
Pricing: $19.99AUD / month, with 14 days free.
Hostinger - Editing locked behind a paywall
Similarly to 10web, Hostinger requires you to answer three questions about your site and then give a short description. Unlike some builders we reviewed, the process of building the site with AI is hidden, with the site appearing only once the process is fully complete – in about 30 seconds. This is purely an aesthetic function, but for us, the tactile-seeming reward of having your site generated, while you watch, feels like a satisfying payoff and one we missed in this process.
Once complete, you can view your AI-generated site. The sites Hostinger generated for us were relatively basic and straightforward.
Cons - The major drawback for Hostinger is that you can’t access the editor to make changes to your site until you’ve signed up and paid for a site. This means you can’t try the editor first to check whether it suits your needs.
Best for: Creating a basic site, with the understanding that editing the generated site could be limited.
Pricing: Minimum $2.99USD / month for first year, increasing to minimum $6.99.
In the dynamic world of web design, we believe AI-powered website builders will become a game changer for starting a new website design. Our advice? Find the platform that best fits your needs, dive in and explore. This ever-advancing field is only going to get more sophisticated and evolved – so jump in early and be at the forefront of this revolutionary technology.
