What we’ve been up to

DEVELOPMENT

In no particular order… we’ve added:

Side Nav

'Our Side Nav functions just like any other section, which means that you can lay out your Side Nav design exactly as you like.'

Side Navs are usually pretty rigid. They generally consist of a list of menu items and a close button. If you want to change anything , it generally involves jumping under the hood and getting into the code (if that’s your thing). In classic PXT style, we made our Side Nav feature completely flexible without any coding required.

Our Side Nav functions just like any other section, which means that you can lay out your Side Nav design exactly as you like. Choose an image or a video for the background. Position it on the left or right side of the page, and add buttons to expand and contract your new Side Nav on any layers that can contain links.

Here’s a video that shows you how to get going with SideNav

Updated Editor skin

We knew that keeping our editing interface simple was important, but our recent rounds of user research confirmed this. We had two key problems we wanted to solve. First, we wanted to make it simple to see your draft site without saving. And next, we wanted to stop accidental publishing when users selected ‘Publish’ instead of ‘Save’.

It sounds simple but our overriding goal, as always, is to reduce clutter. Adding more buttons wasn’t an option. We want our Editor to be a useful tool, not an overwhelming or frustrating experience. Whether you’re building a new site, adding to your blog or working on something for a client, you’ll be spending a lot of time in the Editor, and we hope you’ll be able to enjoy that time!

Our new dynamic button changes to let you see your draft or live site depending on whether your site is published. We added colours to the button to help delineate which is which. While we were at it, we did a redesign of all of our Editor icons and consolidated features in the toolbar. We hope you’ll enjoy the new streamlined look, and as always, we’d love to hear what you think.

Check out the transformation

This is the start of a big push for productivity improvements that we are currently working on. We know that any reduction in friction means big time savings for teams working fulltime in PXT. In this case, deleting multiple sections required each section to be selected and deleted one at a time. Now using shortcut keys, a group of sections can be selected with just two clicks and deleted in just one click, Meaning if you want to delete 10 sections, you can now do that with just three clicks instead of twenty! Watch this space for more productivity features coming for our power users.
